First Step Services provides alcohol and drug abuse, mental health counseling adolescent and family counseling.

Counseling services include  individual, group, adolescent, family and Intensive Outpatient alcohol and drug treatment. Assessments and counseling sessions are available 6 days per week. DOT evaluations are provided by appointment only.

 

First Step is licensed by the State of North Carolina  to provide DWI and DWLR assessment, ADETS and treatment services.

First Step offers all levels of services necessary to complete the substance abuse assessment and counseling requirements of a drinking and driving arrest. We also provide the services necessary to complete the new assessment requirements of a DWLR (Driving While License Revoked  for DWI) charge.     

 

Adolescent Services are provided individually and in groups. The family is involved in all aspects of our adolescent treatment program.

 

F.A.C.E.

 

Family and Community Education

First Step is proud to provide a free substance abuse education program to our communities. Learn how to effectively help the alcohol or drug user you care about. 

The F.A.C.E. program meets at First Step   on Six Forks Road in Suite 213 each Monday evening, 6:00 - 7:00 PM. F.A.C.E. is Family And Community Education. All who are interested in learning more about alcohol and drug abuse and what the family and friends can do to assist. The family and others from the community are welcome.  

 

Though F.A.C.E. is facilitated by professional counselors, it is not a counseling or a support group. It is designed for families, friends, teachers, counselors, attorneys, other professionals, etc. and is not appropriate for the alcohol or drug abuser. DOT SAP (Substance Abuse Professional) Evaluations are provided for people who have CDLs or are in a job that is regulated by or follows the rules of the Federal DOT (Department of Transportation). Call for more information.

 

If you live in another state and received an NC DWI, First Step can help you with your assessment and classes or counseling without your having to return to North Carolina. With our help, you can meet all requirements by receiving services in the area in which you live. 

 

First Step provides all levels of counseling services in Durham.  The Durham program is open Monday - Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM for assessments and appointments. 

 

Major insurance is accepted by First Step. You may even be able to use your health insurance to assist in paying for groups or counseling resulting from an NC DWI charge.  Call for more information.

First Step Psychiatrist, Enrique Lopez, M.D., conducts psychiatric evaluations, prescription management and medication follow ups. He provides psychiatric services as well as functioning as our Medical Director. Dr. Lopez has a long history of providing psychiatric services in the Raleigh and Wake County area.
