I take a client-centered approach to counseling and to DWI work. I am aware that most clients come to First Step because someone or some agency is pushing them into it. I respect that in clients. I also respect that clients are doing what is necessary despite their feeling that it is just more punishment.
My counseling experience with alcohol abuse, drug abuse and DWI began in 1989. I have worked in different areas of the field of addictions counseling. My experience includes Substance Abuse Counselor, Family Counselor, Mental Health Adult Therapist, DWI Counselor, Clinical Supervisor, DMV Evaluator, DOT Evaluator and Program Director.
Before returning to college, I worked as a staff member at the Foundation For "A Course In Miracles" in Roscoe, NY for 5-1/2 years. During that time, I studied spirituality under the teaching of Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D. The focus of the teaching was to gain inner peace by letting go of grievances, hurt and anger through learning the process of forgiveness.
I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Addiction Professionals of North Carolina.
